The name has circulated in several inaccurate forms, but the product is the UWORLD U1 series from UBTECH Robotics. On June 30, 2026, the Chinese manufacturer introduced a consumer brand in Shenzhen and three companion-focused machines: U1 Lite, U1 Pro and U1 Ultra.

Their humanlike appearance commands attention. It can also obscure the central question: what can the machine actually do? Public information describes a platform for conversation, memory and expression. It does not demonstrate a domestic assistant that can cook, tidy or clean.

UBTECH attributes biomimetic skin, a dual-pivot neck and 88 degrees of freedom to the series. The South China Morning Post describes female and male versions about 1.68 and 1.83 metres tall. That places the complete models in the adult-size machine category, with corresponding space and safety constraints.

The public sources do not yet document the exact hardware differences between Pro and Ultra. A marketing name cannot establish mass, speed, joint torque, hand capability or included options. Buyers need a dated specification for the exact configuration.

AI designed to create a sense of relationship

UBTECH describes Resonance-LM as a language model for long-term companionship. Its architecture reportedly combines a fast initial response, deeper reasoning, persistent memory and proactive interaction without a wake word.

The company says the system recognises more than 20 emotional states with over 90% accuracy, responds intuitively in 500 milliseconds and keeps speech-to-lip latency below 20 milliseconds. These are precise numbers, but the test protocol is not public. They do not reveal performance with accents, silence, distress, atypical expression, noise or ambiguous emotion.

Convincing expression is not proof of human understanding. U1 may produce a context-sensitive response; it does not feel the care it simulates. That distinction matters around children, isolated adults and vulnerable users.

What U1 does not do

AFP reporting carried by CNA says the base model can move its head, eyes and mouth, but does not clean or cook. This is a decisive limitation: adult appearance and a full body do not turn the robot into a household butler.

UBTECH names daily companionship, reminders, reception, tourism, education, elder care and psychological support among target applications. A target market is not a validated capability. No independent clinical outcome has been published for loneliness or mental health, and no public test demonstrates safe autonomy in a cluttered home with children, pets and stairs.

Read the 13,361-order claim carefully

UBTECH reported 13,361 cumulative orders on launch day. It is an important commercial signal, but the release does not break down variants, contract values, deposits, cancellation terms or countries. A reported order is not necessarily a fully paid, manufactured and delivered robot.

CNA/AFP said initial deliveries were due to begin in September 2026. The next proof point is operational: how many units reach customers, with what delay, reliability, intervention rate and service support?

The manufacturer also says it targets annual capacity of 10,000 humanoids in 2026 across its operations. Capacity, production and delivery are three different measurements.

Local processing does not settle privacy

Conversation and memory require cameras, microphones, sensors and storage. UBTECH says U1 prioritises local computation, minimises cloud dependence, encrypts data and provides user-controlled safeguards. CNA also reports that data would not be used to train the models.

Those commitments need to appear in the terms for the product actually sold. Buyers should know what leaves the device, who can access it, how long it remains, how to export or delete it and how to disable sensors physically. Visitors must understand that they are entering a space with cameras and microphones.

Face and voice customisation adds another risk. Replicating a loved one or celebrity requires rights and explicit consent. In bereavement, technical resemblance must never be framed as continuity of the person.

Price and availability outside China

The series starts at RMB 119,800, while Ultra is reported at RMB 990,000. Converting those amounts without a date or formal quote would create false precision. A delivered European price would also include secure freight, insurance, import VAT, possible duties, documentation, conformity work, installation, warranty, spare parts and software services.
